Afrobeats star Kizz Daniel has revealed that the death of his mother was responsible for his recent absence from the music scene, dismissing speculation that he had taken time away to work on a new album.

The singer, whose real name is Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe and who is also known as Vado D’Great, disclosed this on Friday while responding to a fan on X.

The clarification came after a fan, @VicroyDominion1, suggested that the singer’s reduced activity was connected to preparations for a new album.

The fan wrote, “I guess album really made you busy you had to pause for a while.”

In response, Kizz Daniel revealed that his break was prompted by a personal loss rather than a new musical project.

“I paused for my Mom not an album … Lost her this year , but I gotta keep moving for the rest of the family … sorry I came late this year,” he wrote.

The revelation prompted an outpouring of sympathy from fans, who flooded the post with condolences, prayers and words of encouragement for the singer and his family.

One user, @Segunthomas9, wrote, “May her soul rest in peace, mother’s love is the best.”

Another fan, @30bgsoldier8643, said, “Sorry brother accept my condolences brother be strong i really missed your sound.”

“Damn, that must be tough. May her soul rest in peace,” @rhidozi_ wrote.

Another fan, @mynameisnottobi, shared a deeply personal message, drawing parallels between the singer’s loss and the fear of losing their own mother.

“sending love your way. Big Vado, Mummy is sick; I pray I don’t lose her. She’s all i got. I dey imagine how you go dey feel omo love and light your way vadoo,” the fan wrote.

Other followers also joined the conversation with messages of support. @faajikorrect wrote, “So so sorry man, may mummy soul rest in peace with the LORD. Amen.”

Kizz Daniel’s latest disclosure adds to a history of personal losses that have affected his life and, at different points, his music.

The singer lost his father in 2015, while in 2021, he suffered another devastating loss when one of his triplets died.

In a 2025 interview, Kizz Daniel also revealed that his wife lost her mother in 2024. He made the disclosure while discussing the personal experiences and bereavements that influenced his song, “Al-Jannah.”

Despite the difficult period, the singer indicated that he intends to continue with his responsibilities to his family and his career, telling fans that he has to “keep moving for the rest of the family.”

Known for hit songs including “Woju” and “Buga,” Kizz Daniel has built a strong following within and beyond Nigeria since breaking into the mainstream music scene. His latest comments offer fans a glimpse into the personal circumstances behind his relatively low profile in recent months.
