Nigerian youth advocate and digital innovation enthusiast, Queenesther Michael Hogan, has been recognised by the World Summit Awards (WSA) for her contributions to youth empowerment, digital innovation and social impact during her tenure as a Youth Ambassador.

Hogan, who served in the WSA Youth Ambassador network from November 2023 to May 2026, received a Certificate of Participation and a Letter of Recommendation from the organisation’s headquarters in Salzburg, Austria.

The recognition highlights her sustained involvement in promoting digital innovation and creating opportunities for young people to connect with ideas, skills and initiatives capable of addressing social and development challenges.

In a recommendation letter dated September 30, 2026, Hanna-Mari Ristimäki of the International Center for New Media (ICNM) described Hogan as a committed volunteer whose activities contributed significantly to the mission of the World Summit Awards.

According to the letter, Hogan “actively participated in our network since November 2023, contributing significantly to WSA’s mission of promoting local best practices, fostering a global exchange of ideas and solutions, and contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”

The World Summit Awards is an international initiative focused on identifying and promoting digital innovations that contribute to positive social change. Through its global network, the organisation connects young innovators, entrepreneurs, changemakers and other stakeholders working to harness technology for development.

Hogan’s contribution, according to the recommendation, went beyond participation in the organisation’s activities. She was commended for demonstrating “great passion, skills, and dedication to promoting digital innovation.”

The letter further noted that “her dedication to leveraging innovation and technology for social impact, and supporting and empowering other young innovators, aligns perfectly with the core values of the World Summit Awards.”

Beyond Ambassadorship

One of the notable aspects of Hogan’s tenure was her involvement in activities aimed at strengthening awareness of the WSA and its objectives at the local level.

She also served as a Jury member for the WSA’s global Young Innovators Award, a role in which she evaluated and engaged with initiatives developed by young innovators from different parts of the world.

The organisation said she performed the responsibility “with professionalism, care, and dedication.”

Her commitment to youth development was also reflected in a self-initiated project known as Intechship. The initiative, according to the recommendation letter, represented a significant extension of her responsibilities as a Youth Ambassador and took her role “to the next level.”

Intechship organises workshops designed to prepare young people for the future of work through structured internship opportunities. Through the initiative, Hogan has sought to expose young people to practical experiences and opportunities that can strengthen their readiness for an increasingly technology-driven employment landscape.

The WSA also acknowledged Hogan’s online and offline engagement, noting that her activities contributed to the development of her knowledge and experience in digital innovation and social impact.

Platform for Social Entrepreneurship

During her time with the WSA, Hogan also featured as a speaker at the “Successes, Failures, and Lessons of Social Entrepreneurship” open webinar.

The session, held on September 19, 2024, at 11:00 UTC, was organised in collaboration with the Internet Society and the World Summit Awards communities.

The webinar brought together young leaders and practitioners to discuss the realities of social entrepreneurship, including how young entrepreneurs can navigate setbacks, build sustainable initiatives and use innovation to create meaningful social impact.

Hogan shared the platform with Poornima Meegammana, Director of Youth Development at Shilpa Sayura Foundation; Paola Celina Corporan, a 2023 Youth Ambassador and Associate of Experimentation at the Accelerator Lab of the United Nations Development Programme; and Malak Yacout, Founder and Executive Director of The Volunteer Circle.

The session was moderated by Claire van Zwieten, with the World Summit Awards serving as co-host.

Her participation placed her among a group of young professionals and social-impact advocates contributing to international conversations around youth entrepreneurship, innovation and development.

Recognition of Youth Leadership

The Certificate of Participation issued to Hogan similarly acknowledged her commitment to advancing digital innovation for social impact through learning, collaboration and community engagement.

It highlighted several areas of contribution, including developing knowledge of digital innovation best practices and social entrepreneurship, building relationships within a diverse international network of young innovators and changemakers, and raising awareness of the WSA’s mission and the transformative possibilities of digital technologies.

The certificate also recognised her contribution to efforts aimed at supporting the development of “a more inclusive, sustainable, and human-centered digital future.”

The recommendation letter concluded on a strong note, describing Hogan as an asset to the WSA network and an impactful leader with extraordinary passion for creating positive global change.

For Hogan, the recognition represents an international acknowledgement of a period of sustained engagement with youth development, technology and social innovation.

Her experience also reflects the growing involvement of young Nigerians in global innovation networks, where digital tools are increasingly being deployed not only for economic opportunities but also to address education, employment, entrepreneurship and broader social challenges.

As Nigeria and other African countries continue to experience rapid digital transformation, initiatives led by young advocates such as Hogan underscore the growing role of youth in shaping technology-driven solutions to local and global development needs.
