The development could provide Australian retail investors with an opportunity to participate in the highly anticipated stock market debut of the company behind the Claude artificial intelligence chatbot.
Commonwealth Securities (CommSec), the bank's broking unit, disclosed on Tuesday that it would serve as the lead Australian retail broker for Anthropic's share offer, subject to the IPO proceeding.
The brokerage added that Anthropic would not seek a separate listing on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), indicating that its shares would be traded primarily in the United States.
According to the details released, the company is expected to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol ANT after the IPO is completed. The offering is anticipated before Thanksgiving, although its final timing remains subject to regulatory and market conditions.
The prospectus is expected to be filed with Australia's corporate regulator, providing details of the proposed retail participation in the share sale.
Anthropic's planned listing comes at a time when investors are closely assessing the financial prospects of artificial intelligence companies, particularly whether massive investments in AI infrastructure will generate sufficient returns to justify their increasingly high valuations.
The company's valuation has also become a major subject of discussion among prospective investors. Reuters previously reported that some existing and potential investors were considering a valuation of approximately $1.5 trillion, down from an earlier figure of around $2 trillion.
The reassessment reportedly followed the disclosure of financial details at a recent investor event, prompting further scrutiny of the company's financial commitments and long-term growth prospects.
Investor concerns have also been heightened by Anthropic's projected spending obligations associated with the expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The company expects to incur nearly half of the $895.4 billion in spending commitments linked to AI infrastructure development before December 31, 2030.
The scale of the projected expenditure has raised questions about the sustainability of the current investment boom in artificial intelligence and the ability of major technology companies to convert their infrastructure spending into profitable business operations.
Anthropic's anticipated IPO is therefore expected to attract considerable attention from global investors seeking exposure to the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence industry.
