President Bola Tinubu has praised the contributions of Zenith Bank founder and Chairman, Jim Ovia, to Nigeria's financial services industry, economic development and private-sector growth as the renowned businessman marks his 75th birthday.
The President described Ovia as a visionary entrepreneur, accomplished banker and distinguished business leader whose commitment to excellence has helped shape the country's banking sector.
Tinubu particularly commended Ovia's role in establishing Zenith Bank in the 1990s and transforming it into one of Nigeria's leading financial institutions, with operations and significant presence across Africa, Europe and other international markets.
“Mr. Ovia’s dedication, resilience and commitment to excellence have not only grown Zenith Bank into a banking behemoth but also helped the growth of the Nigerian financial services sector.
“His pioneering role in establishing Zenith Bank in the 90s and building it into one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions, with significant presence across Africa, Europe and beyond is remarkable,” the President said.
Tinubu noted that Ovia's entrepreneurial journey demonstrates the importance of innovation, discipline, sound corporate governance and sustained investment in national development.
He also acknowledged the banker's contributions beyond the financial sector, particularly in digital infrastructure, digital awareness and inclusion, education, youth empowerment, philanthropy and human capital development.
According to the President, Ovia's interventions in these areas have helped create opportunities for young Nigerians to develop their abilities and realise their potential.
As the Zenith Bank founder celebrates the milestone, Tinubu wished him continued good health, strength and many more years of productive service to Nigeria and humanity.
