What's comedy to you
Comedy is my passion and my life. My vision is to create happiness and fun in people's lives
Tell us about your first experience with the audience as a stand up comic
Well, that was such a long time ago. Whilst it was a nervous experience trying to make a 100 people laugh, my trade mark my smile did the trick for me. I love human interaction, it was nice to see a few friendly faces.
How do you get your jokes
Through life experiences,i recently visited Ireland and spent time writing jokes about my experience and challenges in an enviroment where there is scarcity of black people.
What makes a good comedian, and how can you make a difference of white or black jokes
You need to get people to laugh at your jokes,i try not to crack black and white jokes but following my recent experience in Colnakilty in Ireland,it was an opportunity to share my living experience and I have a number of jokes, to share about my experience. It does not matter if you are black or white.
Do you have a mentor in the industry
No Mentor, but I am hooked on Basket Mouth, Gandoki, Klint the drunk and western influences - Chris Rock, just to mention a few.
As a person, what makes you laugh
When am around like-minded and fun loving people it makes me laugh. People cracking jokes and responding to my jokes.
Apart from comedy, what else do you derive joy doing
I also paint , I am an abstract artist. You can visit my website for further details www.xanga.com/bankys
Have you ever cracked a joke in a gathering and nobody laughed. Tell us how you felt
Well, that has happened a few times. The way I got out of it was to pick on a member of the audience and engage in the next round of jokes. My feelings were shock , denial, relief and welcome the future.
What's the most stupid and craziest thing you've ever done as a comedian
Well asking members of the public whether they have seen my wife even though my wife is next to me.
What gives you an edge over others in the same line
I guess I thoroughly enjoy what I do and I think it shows when I perform, I have also been exposed to the Western and African cultures, this has helped shape my views.
Do you often drink or smoke before going on stage for confidence
No I don’t but i sing and i always look at the mirror and say am the best and the greatest.
What is your most have item(s)
Located in an environment where I can crack jokes, I don’t want much in life
Do you agree to the saying that black people are more talented comedians
Ah no, have never thought of it ,I just enjoy jokes no matter whatever your colour, bring the jokes on.
What's your wish for the comedy business
That African comedians are recognised for our talent around the world, I want to see Nollywood develop more English Naija comedy films. If there is any Nollywood producers, am available to talk.
A peep into your person and lifestyle
I am a sensitive soul who enjoys human interaction , fun loving. I do not take myself seriously. I am married with three children. They have all inherited my fun loving personality.
