How Driver Stole N7Million From Senator Uzamere At Gun Point

While some have argued that the gap between the rich and the poor in this part of the world is getting wider by the day, others believe it is the normal thing all over the world for the underprivileged to be continually submissive to the wealthy.
However, a driver to a senator in the seat of power in Abuja, FCT recently decided to take his destiny in his hands and openly showed his boss that what a poor man cannot get easily, he could get by force.
On this fateful day, Senator Ehigie Uzamere, an architect by profession and a legislator representing Edo South Senatorial District was reportedly robbed of his car and a brief case containing huge sums of money and vital documents at gun point by his official driver, Mallam Mohammed Ibrahim. The briefcase contained N4 million and $25,000 and of course, the senator must have planned to use the money for some important project.
But this was not be as the senator was dealt with by his driver, who decided to betray the trust reposed in him by his boss, and took the money from him at gun point.
“It was around 12 noon on Friday, when on the way to the airport the senator decided to check his briefcase to ascertain if all he was going with were complete only to discover that part of the money inside ha d been taken.
“The money had developed wings, when he had earlier left the driver in the car on his visit to the Chinese Embassy.
Apparently dissatisfied with the way and manner the money left the bag, he decided to return home and find a solution to the missing money.
According to sources, Senator Ehigie had asked the driver to abort the trip to the airport, when he discovered that the sum of N1 million was missing from the money he kept in the bag. But surprisingly, on the way back home, Ibrahim suspected that his act had been uncovered suddenly parked the car, walked towards the senator's door, put a gun to his head and ordered him to get off the car if he loved his life.
The bewildered senator did not think twice, even before he recovered from the shock and ran out of the car, while Ibrahim sped off with the vehicle and a brief case containing huge sums of money and vital documents, and he has not been seen since then.
The senator, who has not recovered from the shock of the attack, revealed that the driver had put a gun to his head, dragged him out of the car  a black Mercedes Benz S.430 and disappeared with the car.
The senator, who was said to be on his way to Benin City, Edo State for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) state congress, had irreplaceable documents, personal and official, now in the possession of his run-away driver.
It was learnt that the driver, Mallam Mohammed Ibrahim who had been his personal driver for the past seven years, is 35, and is from Niger State.
Speaking to our correspondent in Benin, Senator Ehigie said that, on the way just before they reach his house (in Jabi) by the junction (of Ebitu  Ukiwe and Bala Sokoto), the driver suddenly parked the car, came to his side, put a pistol on his head, practically dragged him out and disappeared.
We further gathered that the driver who had won the hearts of Uzamere's family members over the years, later called a member of his boss' household to come and pick his father's car somewhere in Life Camp area of the Federal Capital City, Abuja.
The flustered senator, who was said to have been devastated for several hours, could not leave for the ACN gubernatorial congress in Benin City until late penultimate Saturday when it was almost concluded.
Meanwhile, similar attack had happened last year when his police orderly attached to the senator was shot dead while his driver, Mohammed Ibrahim, was in a coma and received treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
It was learnt that, the Senator was returning to his father in-law's house, Mr. Sunny Uyigue at Zabayor Street, near the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium at about 8pm on the fateful day when the heavily armed men attacked him.
Senator Uzamere was Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) senatorial candidate for Edo South at that time.
