A
leading farm equipment manufacturing company, AGCO based in the United States
of America is to establish two assembly plants in Nigeria.

plants according to a discussion between the management of the company and
Nigeria’s minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina,
will be sited in Rivers and Kaduna states respectively.
Dr.
Adesina who spoke in an interview with African Examiner in Washington, DC said
establishment of the two plants in Nigeria would not only boost agriculture but
avail Nigerian farmers with tractors for their use.
“There
is a company called AGCO, It is a global player in manufacturing tractors and
we discussed with them to establish an assembly plant in Nigeria, one in Rivers
state and one in Kaduna state. Nigeria uses now 20,000 tractors but we need
roughly 300,000 tractors, having them coming to Nigeria and assembly their
plants in Nigeria will make tractors easily accessible to our farmers and they
can train our technicians in assemblage and repair services”, he said.
The
minister added that another US based company is interested in establishing a
rice production plant in Nigeria while disclosing that many more foreign firms
have indicated interest in diverse sectors of the Nigerian economy.
“Also
one company told me they want to get into rice production. They want to do
35,000 hectare of rice in Sokoto river valley area. We have others who want to
do dairy production in Nigeria. I have met with many investors since I have
been here. I feel thrilled that our story has gone to the US investors here.”
