In a statement
signed by the JTF spokesman Lt. Col Sagir Musa, the taskforce said it also
recovered a cache of arms and ammunitions from the terrorist’s hideout.
The spokesman said
that the successful operation of the task force was based on information made
available by residents.
The recovered arms
and ammunitions, according to the statement, included five units of Kalashnikov
rifles, a pistol, 11 AK 47 rifle empty magazines, a G3 rifle, 176 assorted
ammunitions, 24 units of primed IED gas cylinders, a dozen IED remote control
switches, six assorted IED and incendiary materials and chemicals, 15 small
primed IED cans.
The statement
further added that: “all the recovered items are planned to be used by the
terrorists for operation ‘Black Christmas’– aimed to disrupt peaceful conduct
of the impending Christmas celebration in Borno State.”
The statement also
reads: “sustained follow up operations were successfully conducted by the Task
Force at Sabon Gari, Sabon Layin Gwange, Dala Zajeri, Biafra and Suleimanti
areas of Maiduguri metropolis between 3 and 5 December, 2012.
“Consequently,
four identified Boko Haram Terrorists sub commanders including two experts in
the manufacturing of Improvised Explosive Devices were killed in a shootout
with own troops, two soldiers were wounded and arms and ammunitions were also
recovered from the various hideouts of terrorists.”
The statement
therefore thanked members of the public for their cooperation and understanding
by giving information that has assisted in the successes so far recorded.
