With tearful eyes and sorrow laden hearts Nigerians bid Susan Oluwabimpe Harvey, popularly called Goldie, goodbye. If only we could turn back the hand of time, so many would be at your beck and call on February 14, 2013 when you struggled to stay alive. Your beautiful heart brought the shining light that shone like a diamond in the sky and deemed just as quickly. We love you Goldie.

    EARLY LIFE
Indeed, in the case of talent and passion, the apple does not fall too far away from the tree. Goldie was born In the early 80s to very educated and successful parents – her mum, late Mrs. Olabisi Betty from the illustrious Olaiya family in Ijebu, Ogun State was a former managing director in a bank, while her dad, a native of Ikole-Ekiti, Ekiti State, also retired as a director in a new generation bank. He is now into full time clerical works in Lagos. The first of four kids, Goldie’s education began at the Green Springs Montessori Primary School and then St. John's College, Palm Grove, Lagos where Christian Religious Knowledge, she said, was her favourite subject because she didn’t have to study too hard to pass it. In fact, by the age of 10, she already knew so many bible verses that belied her age.

She recalled, “My childhood was very interesting but regimented. My Dad was a leader in church and very active too while my mum used to lead the choir. So, as their first child, I took very active roles in all church activities – drama, choir, bible classes and so on. Church was the only social life we had. On Mondays, we went for bible classes; Wednesdays were for prayer meetings and then one Friday in a month, we went for vigil. I never had toys or friends because my father thought they would lead me astray." Thus, her mum was her closest friend. However, the bond that held mother and daughter together snapped irretrievably in 1994.

    AWARDS
Goldie is an ambassador of Project Alert, a world renowned, not-for-profit organization, aimed at advocating zero tolerance to all forms of violence against women and young girls. This rare honour was bestowed upon her after the president of the organisation saw all the charity works she had been doing on her own.

Goldie has so far in the past year garnered a total of ten awards including Exquisite Lady of the year (ELOY) Best Female Artiste award and City People Best Female Artiste of the year. She has also been inducted as a Federal Celebrity Special Marshal alongside other notable Nigerian celebrities. The Law Students Society of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) recently issued her an award for musical excellence under the category of Best Female Artiste of the Year. She has also been conferred a United Nations Youth Ambassador for Peace by the Federal Government.
Having won all the major awards on the African continent, headlined major events within and outside the continent, hosted sold-out tours, Goldie is not just a name but a brand that had since carved a niche for herself as a leading African female pop diva.
Goldie became the final celebrity to exit the BBA7 star game house in 2012 as the 3rd runner up.
The video for SAY MY NAME received BEST POP COSTUME at the Nigerian Music Video Awards (NMVA) in December 2012. She was also honoured with a SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD at Top Naija music awards same month.
Queen G is currently working on a continent-wide musical project entitled THE AFRICA INVASION ALBUM. The first three hits off the Naughty Singles compilation; SKIBOBO featuring AY (Tanzania), MILIKI featuring NAVIO (Uganda), and GIVE IT TO ME featuring J MARTINS (Nigeria), have all recorded massive downloads worldwide.

I Was Going To Propose To Goldie On Valentine’s Day – Prezzo

According to Kenyan rapper Prezzo, he planned to propose to Goldie on Thursday, February 14 - Valentine’s Day- when he got the shocking news that she had passed on.
The most shocking news, however, is that Prezzo who met Goldie on 2012 Big Brother Africa star game, reality TV show, thought all he needed to get Goldie’s hand in marriage was some positive pressure and affection, but unknown to him, Goldie got married in 2005 to a British citizen Andrew Harvey and  enjoyed marital bliss till death separated her from her husband of 12 years.
All her purported interest in Prezzo during the BBA star game was ‘make believe’, it was purely an entertainment and publicity stunt. She stopped giving attention to Prezzo when she saw that he was using her to gain popularity.
Till her death Goldie was faithful to her husband and held him very close to her heart.
As Nigerians are mourning the untimely demise of a promising legend Goldie, Prezzo wrote a heart melting poem to the Queen of Music; he indicated how impossible it is for human to change the will of God and his selection of the best and God’s desire to grant us peace.

    Read the poem;
God saw you were getting tired, and a cure was not meant to be
So he put his arms around you, and whispered come with me
With tearful eyes we watched you, as we saw you pass away
Although we love you deeply, we could not make you stay
Your golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us…
    He only takes the best
    Rest in Peace, Goldie!

Was it God that took Goldie?
An anonymous fan reacted to Prezzo’s poem for Goldie and he sent us this mail below:What a beautiful poem! When it comes to life and death humans have no choice and we are always at our best element literarily to express how we feel. I am not surprised that Prezzo could pen such a beautiful poem for someone close to his heart of love.
But was it God that took Goldie from her husband, friends including Prezzo, family and fans? Definitely not! God must be heartless and uncaring to cause the death of Goldie and others that leave children orphans and widows childless, just because he wants angelic companions in heaven. God has millions of angelic worshipers in heaven.
When a widow of Nain lost her only child, a son, Jesus was moved by pity and he resurrected him. When Lazarus died, Jesus wept because as a human he was carried along by pains and hollowness caused by death. And according to God’s divine programme for humans, Jesus will rule over the death for one thousand years, after that the “last enemy,” death will be brought to nothing. I don’t want to go into deeper explanation, but the truth is that death is an enemy to God and Jesus.
And to undo death all those in the graves will hear Christ’s voice in the future and rise up. Jesus did not say the dead go to heaven, he said they are in the grave and a time is coming for a mass resurrection. Are the dead to be resurrected from blissful heaven? Jesus did not say so. He said they will be resurrected from the grave. Remember too that death started because our first father Adam was sentenced to death by God. Death is not a transition to heaven, it is a punishment earned by Adam for disobeying God and Adam passed sin and death to us. But with Christ’s death, death will soon be undone by Jesus through resurrection. And after that time, death itself will die. “And death will be no more…,” the Bible says.

How she died – Kenny Ogungbe

CEO of Kennis Music, the label Goldie was signed on, Kenny Ogungbe has issued a statement detailing the final hours of the late singer.
“With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey. Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award.
She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7::30 in the evening. We consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passed away; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her.
She is survived by her father, step- mother, brothers and sisters. We deeply sympathise with her family and fans all over the world and very grateful to all and sundry, especially, the vibrant Nigerian media for their concern and prompt reportage. We shall keep everybody informed as events unfold as we are devastated by the sudden loss.”
Goldie’s remains have been deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH mortuary.

The angel of death not at work in Nollywood - Benita Nzeribe

Sultry Nollywood actress, Benita Nzeribe has said that she refuses to believe evil prophecy that the angel of death is at work in Nollywood because of the recent deaths in the industry.
“I don’t know why people get too pessimistic about such things. People are saying that a lot of people in Nollywood are dying. A lot of bankers are dying too. It’s not narrowed down to Nollywood alone. It is the way God has willed it; If God did not allow it, it wouldn’t happen,” Benita said.
Benita was reacting to the recent prophecy that there would be more deaths in Nollywood this year.
According to her, “I say no to those people who say that the angel of death is upon Nollywood. Such an angel has not seen Nollywood, it does not have our address and it will never see us. I am passionate about it, and I reject that. I will not believe in the idea that the angel of death visited us. I don’t like to hear that.”
