President of CAN, Ayo Oritsejafor |
The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has rejected the call by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, to extend amnesty to members of Boko Haram just like the Niger-Delta militants by the federal government.
The Christian body, on Wednesday, in a statement released in Abuja by its General Secretary, Musa Asake, “wonder the kind of amnesty contemplated by the Sultan.”
It further added that it, “categorically rejects any offer of amnesty for members of the Boko Haram sect,” because, “one group of people cannot continue to pay the price for one Nigeria. We must sit together as brothers and discuss issues,” the statement explained.
CAN therefore urged the federal government to reject the suggestion by the respected monarch.
It, however, said that Boko Haram group should first drop its fundamentalism ideas and embrace ceasefire before any talk of amnesty can arise at all.
