Johannesburg - Murder-accused paralympian Oscar Pistorius has eight outstanding traffic fines totalling R5 545, according to a report on Wednesday.
Pistorius has a black Mini Cooper, a black BMW 1-series, a
black Volvo and a black BMW 7-series registered in his name, according to
Beeld.
His love of fast cars is well known, and he recently
negotiated the purchase of a Mercedes-Benz McLaren supercar. He regularly
tweeted photos of fast cars that he had test-driven.
In 2012, Pistorius was fined R1 560 for driving the 7-series
at 160km/h in a 120km/h zone on the N1 highway near Johannesburg.
In the same year, he was fined R560 for talking on his
cellphone while driving.
Four other R560 fines - two involving the BMW 1-series, one
for the Volvo and another for the Mini - were for not displaying front number
plates.
In 2010, Pistorius was fined R1 000 for driving the Mini
Cooper at 150km/h in a 120km/h zone.
New York Times Magazine sportswriter Michael Sokolov
described Pistorius as “a bit mad”, referring in an article to an incident in
which Pistorius allegedly drove at 240km/h in the rain with the writer in his
car.
