The Chairman of the Edo State Subsidy Reinvestment and
Empowerment Programme (SURE-P), Lucky Imaseun has debunked claims that the
programme is merely political and has not achieved its aim of poverty
alleviation.
Mr Imaseun said the programme is not aimed at a single
political party but on all Nigerians.
Last month, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) had accused
the Federal Government of using the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment
Programme (SURE-P), for political purposes in preparation of the 2015 general
elections.
The party said the programme which was set up to manage
savings from the oil subsidy withdrawal is currently being used to channel
funds to members and cronies of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who
are heading the state chapters of SURE-P.
