Brad Pitt says he and Angelina Jolie have been very "moved" by the reaction to her double mastectomy.
The 38-year-old actress revealed in May she had undergone the operation
to remove her breasts earlier this year after being diagnosed with the BRCA1mutated gene which
causes breast cancer.
Brad, 49, insists he and his fiancée have been touched by the
messages of support they're still receiving and also surprised by the amount of
people who have contacted them to say they are going through the same thing.
During an appearance on TV show 'Good Morning America' today (17.06.13),
he said: "She's doing great. When she wrote her piece, we had already come
out the other end and we're feeling really good about it. We're really
surprised and moved by how many people are dealing with the same issue, or
wondering about the same issue ... It's just been a beautiful thing to
watch."
Angelina had the test because her mother Marcheline Bertrand died
from ovarian cancer in 2007, and the 'Salt' star's results showed she had an 87
per cent chance of developing breast cancer and 50 per cent risk of ovarian
cancer and she decided to have the operation for the sake of her six children.
Brad says Angelina's next goal is to ensure the test she had to
identify the cancer-causing gene is available to all women.
The 'World War Z' star - who
waved to fans as he arrived at the studios in Times Square in New York - added:
"Her focus now is that all people have access to the testing and know what
they can do about it. Her idea was that if someone could learn from her story,
then she would love to share that. And she has certainly shown if you do your
research and make your decision, what's best for you, it doesn't have to be a
scary thing."
