The Big Search realities show judges include Pauline Long, Evelyn Obahor and Sinazo Yolwa. It’s a TV reality show where media personality, Evelyn Obahor is in search of a TV presenter of African descent in the UK. The judges will pick 12 finalists and send them into a house for a month to drill and task them in different areas of TV presenting such as news reading, reporting and talk-show hosting among others.
The winner gets to have his or her own show, a weekend away to an exotic resort as well as £1000 in cash. Evelyn got the idea of the show, while watching one of the mainstream breakfast shows some time ago, and all the presenter did, according to her, was sit and laugh her way through the whole show, she said that this was really annoying.
“Being a presenter myself, I thought she did a poor job and I
thought to myself, our people have the talent and the flair to do these and
ever better, but they are not given the chance,” she said.
She decided there and then
to come up with a show, where the mainstream media could use them as a
reference and prove a point that Africa has the presenters and that ‘we are
just as good.’
It will be shown on BBC, Channel 4 Mainstream and Vox Africa, but it
won’t come to Nigeria until this year’s summer.
