Following the impeachment of the Adamawa state governor, Murtala Nyako, the Adamawa state House of Assembly also passed a motion that Speaker of the house, Umaru Fintiri should be sworn in as the state’s acting governor.
In a short remark after his swearing in, the new acting governor promised to pay the civil servants salaries the outstanding two months being owed them by the state government.
Part of the allegations against former governor Nyako was the alleged cut in civil servants salaries for the month of June.
Civil servants were also not paid for July because the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, froze the accounts of the state government at the beginning of impeachment process against Messrs.
Nyako and Ngilari; though the later resigned to stave off impeachment.
Fintiri will hold office for a maximum of 3 months during which time the electoral commission, INEC, is expected to conduct a fresh governorship election.
