In life and death,
this great man, Aare AbdulAzeez Arisekola’s ways never ceased to amaze his hordes
of admirers, is it his controversial ways of dealing with people? His
unrivalled philanthropist gestures or his underground politicking that is not
controversial? His ways are always special.
Much has been said
and written about his last glorious days, his simple, but classy Islamic burial
and the way and manner his Will was read a couple of days after his burial,
which has put paid to what could probably lead to any form of suspicion as to
the administration of his vast estates and stupendous wealth.
A source divulged
that most of the children, who were opportune to attend were dressed in
all-white native attires except for three, who chose to be different.
“The whole affair
started before 3.00pm, when a lawyer from the chambers of Arisekola’s lawyer
called the children one after the other and the all filed into the Registrar’s
office according to their ages starting with the eldest daughter, Fatimo Alao.
Also present was
Oba Otudeko, the administrator of the Will, who happens to be the closes
confidant of the late Aare Musulumi minutes after the short ceremony, snippets
of what the Will contained started making the rounds, like the setting up of a
foundation to immortalize the late Islamic leader in order to continue his
philanthropy.
However, we can
disclose exclusively that, when the content of the Will is finally in the
public domain after the holy month of Ramadan, Nigerians will be shocked with
the drastic measure the late Islamic scholar adopted.
Part of the Will,
which might likely lead to a protracted litigation has to do with the fact that
he actually disowned some of his hitherto known children and wives.
One of those he
reportedly disowned in the Will, we gathered, was one of his prominent sons
along with five other children for one reason or the other.
We also gathered
that a prominent lady said to be married to him and lives in the UK was also
disowned and dis-inherited along with two of her young children for an
undisclosed reason, which some claim could be based on the long list of men
associated with her even, while her husband was still hale and hearty.
Three people were
said to have found eternal favour in the sight of Aare and he thanked them and
showed his appreciation also in kind, the first was the elder sister, who is to
be given $1Million, his most senior driver is to receive $250,000, while his
long serving cook will also have no cause to be poor again as he is to be given
$250,000 also.
Our source
disclosed that what was read was actually a codicil because the Will had gone
through a lot of revamping and adjustment over the years as Alhaji has had to
either add or remove the Will.
It was gathered
that Aare Arisekola directed that all his money in First Bank and several
multi-billion naira investment should be kept in a trust fund to be managed by
Oba Otudeko and that the proceeds should go to the beneficiaries throughout
their lifetime.
It will be
recalled that during his lifetime, Arisekola was so influential that he
installed ministers and governors and his boys in the Central Bank of Nigeria
(CBN) were given important positions.
Perhaps, the only
known unfulfilled dream he had was the creation of Ibadan State, which was not
realized in his lifetime; he fought and agitated for it.
Despite his
cult-like personality, one of the known negative impacts he made was his
perceived closeness to one of Nigeria’s dictators, the late Gen. Sanni Abacha.
During the
iron-fist rule of Abacha, his people once took up arms against him and burnt
his cars and his publishing outfit, Monitor along Ring Road, Ibadan.
Sources close to
the late business mogul said that his legacies would be difficult to erase and
that he achieved most of his life ambitions before he bade the world good bye
last month at 69.

Alhaji Abdul Azeez Arisekola Alao, the family is yet to come to terms with the
sudden death of one of his wives, Alhaja Jelilat, who was involved in a ghastly

Her death came as a big surprise to the family members and
well wishers, who could not control their emotions as they wept bitterly over
the woman’s death, which is the third in the family within one year.
First to die was Aare Arisekola’s first wife, Alhaja Risikat who passed away on May 23, 2013 at the age of 68, then the family’s breadwinner, Arisekola Alao died about three weeks ago, and the latest is Alhaja Jelilat, who died at 63.

The remains of Alhaja Jelilat were committed to
mother-earth at Oluyole Estate Extension house of her son, last Wednesday.
The deceased died in motor accident which occurred at Eye
-Nkorin area of Ilorin, Kwara State last week Tuesday, while travelling to
Ilorin for a medical check-up.
Janazah prayer was conducted for her by the Chief Imam of
Arisekola-Alao Central Mosque, Ibadan Alhaji Mustapha Akuru.
Speaking at the burial ceremony, Akuru, who talked about the
virtues of the deceased, urged everyone to live a good life because, according
to him, death comes without giving any notice.
“Death is an inevitable end for every human being and we
must prepare for it at any time,” he said.
Among the dignitaries at the burial are wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, Balogun Mumuni of Yorubaland, Alhaji AbdulRasheed Adesokan, and the Secretary General Muslim Community of Oyo State, Murziq Siyanbade.

Others are Commissioner for Sports
and Youth Development in Oyo State, Hon. Farouk Arisekola- Alao, a PDP
Governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Dr. Kamil Oloso and Mr. Soji Adejumo.
The deceased was survived by Abdulahi and
Fatimah Arisekola –Alao. The question on the lips of sympathizers was ‘why did
Alhaja Risikat travel at a time she should be mourning the death of her husband.’
It was revealed that the woman was no longer married to Aare Arisekola before
his death.
Meanwhile, it was alleged that a sum
of 30 Million naira was carted away from the residence of the late business
mogul, which was why his Oluwo Kekere mansion of the late Aare was put under
lock.
Speaking with First Weekly on the matter, a former deputy governor in Oyo State and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Alhaji Azeem Gbolarumi, who was also a close confidant of the late Arisekola, stated that there was no iota of truth in the story.
He also stated that there was no
time the house was locked, except when the corpse arrived for burial to prevent
hoodlums from gaining entrance into the premises.
According to him, “It is not true that
the house was looted, the only time we locked the gate of the house was during
his burial to prevent hoodlums from gaining entrance into the compound,” he
said.
Arisekola-Alao’s House To Be Turned
To Schools Within 3 Yrs
The expansive
Oluwo-Kekere, Bodija mansion of the late Ibadan business icon and Aare Musulumi
of Yorubaland, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Arisekola-Alao, will become a permanent site
for schools within three years.
This was revealed in
the last will and testament signed by the deceased before his demise and read
out to the children recently, according to a snippet of the will accessed by
Nigerian Tribune.
There had been tension
and suspicions over the content of the will since the demise of the late
Islamic leader, as people continued to besiege his home on a daily basis.
However, according to
the will, the mansion, situated at Oluwo-Kekere, Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State
capital, must be turned by a foundation to a school, consisting primary,
secondary and tertiary institutions within three years.
The humanitarian
gesture of the late business icon was also brought to bear as he stated in the
will that the family must continue to be responsible for sponsoring people to
Umrah and hajj every year.
The late philantropist
also asked family members and custodians of his property to continue with his
gesture, by ensuring the welfare of the people was well taken care of. The
late Arisekola-Alao, in the will, also gave out millions of naira to two people
who were very close to him, though they are not his children.
