It was an epoch event as the student body, the Electrical / Electronics Students Association (EESA), the teaching and non-teaching staff of the Department gathered to welcome the new students, ND1 and HND1 of the Electrical Electronics Department to the Institution in what is generally termed ‘Freshers’ Orientation Day’. At the same event, the Institution’s management at the Department led by the Head of Department (HOD), Engineer Ogundare deemed it fit to inaugurate the first Patron of the Department.
While speaking to the students at the event on a topic, ‘Prepare Yourself, Position Yourself and Project Yourself’, Mr Abiodun said “our world is fast changing, both for good and the not too good. Your course of study- Electrical / Electronics seem to be one of the best tool of development, if you consider that the first thing God even created while forming this world was light. There is ample opportunity in our nation even with the poor energy and electricity levels, so, with the multidisciplinary nature of electricity & electronics, you are being looked up to, on new advancements of technology to make life more meaningful. These solutions or advancements is where you will earn your real sustainable money, not fraud, not rituals, not all the popular vices that are common to youth these days”.
The HOD of the Electrical Electronics Department, Engr Ogundare corroborated Mr Abiodun’s position and in his speech said “as power is necessary in all our sectors of life, it is in technological advancements that you can make your mark. You students all need to first make a success of your studies, start to horn your skills in your desired area, and soon as you graduate, you will be able to project yourself and be relevant to any organization you like to work for or even own your business enterprise where you employ people”
The event also hosted speakers from the Nigerian Institute of Electrical Electronics represented by the Engr Ifeoluwa Agbonyin, and a host of others. In the end, Mr Abiodun was full of praises to the HOD and the students, through the EESA Excos led by its President, Comrade Daniel Okafor, for his appointment as the Patron, which is not only a call to service but also a means to always bring the town to the gown of the Institution.
On behalf of Beta Bridges, Mr Richard Abiodun donated scholarships of one session tuition each to the next best student of the current ND1 and HND1 classes. Mr Abiodun also announced the company’s decision to double its annual recruitment from the Department’s graduates going forward, and proposed a foundation to be sponsored for research & development in vehicle technologies devices that will be 100% Nigerian, among other special goodies that made the students go into unusual excitement.
