Tyson Fury gave a bizarre tribute to Brit rival Anthony Joshua during his battering of Deontay Wilder - by wearing a "Nigeria" gum shield.
Tyson Fury beat American's Deontay Wilder in seven rounds to claim the WBC world heavyweight title, but his victory in Las Vegas was laced with a secret message to Anthony Joshua, after pictures emerged of the Brit wearing a gum shield with the word ‘Nigeria' written across the front, in the colours of the Nigerian flag.
Also, his gloves were green and white, which represents Nigeria’s flag.
What message was Fury trying to pass across to the world?
Sometimes ago, he told Nigeria’s Anthony Joshua that he is more Nigerian than him after Joshua had labeled his fight against Wladmir Klitschko as boring.
A furious Fury replied: “We see who is boring when U fave me! A big bully is what you are u big dosser. Big femi your bully street name. I’ve seen your type many times. The man who can’t speak his own mind, the plastic Nigeria. I’m more Nigerian than you! I’ll fly the flag for Nigeria when we fight,” he said on Instagram.
Fury probably had worn gloves with green and white colour and a mouth guard with Nigeria written on it to send message to Joshua.
He is like saying “Hey Nigerian Joshua, I am coming for you.”
The world is expecting a mouth-watering fight between Fury and Joshua next.
Fury had on Sunday pummelled Deontay Wilder, knocking him out on two occasions and scored a technical knockout in the seventh round after Wilder’s corner threw in the towel.
Wilder received the beating of his life from Fury all through the seven rounds. It was truly a one man show as the former WBC champion was torn apart by a superior fighter.
The Bronze Bomber suffered the first loss of his career as he was knocked down twice by a dominant Fury at the MGM Grand, with his corner eventually throwing in the towel in the seventh round.
Wilder lacked his usual energy and power and had to go straight to hospital after being left bloodied and bruised by new WBC champion Fury.
His trainer felt something was wrong from the first round and has suggested Wilder’s ring-walk outfit – a massive, light-up suit of armour – depleted some of his energy before the fight had even started.
Asked what went wrong, Deas told Boxing Social: ‘Until I see the video it’s hard for me to say exactly what happened.
‘I’m not sure… his legs didn’t look great to me early on. I didn’t think his legs looked like they normally look.
‘I know he came to the ring and the outfit was very heavy.
‘I don’t know if that had [anything] to do with it, Tyson’s a lot of weight to be putting on you as well.
‘I don’t know all the answers yet but once I see the film I know more.’
Fury had no such problems, with the Gypsy King getting carried into the ring on a throne, and dominated the contest from the very first round.
Speaking about the defeat, Wilder himself said: ‘Even the greatest have lost and came back, that is just part of it. You just take it for what it is. I can make no excuses tonight. I had a lot of complications.
‘But we’ll come back stronger next time around. This is what big-time boxing is all about, the best must fight the best. I appreciate all the fans that came out and supported the show, and I hope that everyone gets home safely.’
