COVID-19 cases in Nigeria increased further on Friday with new 328 cases reported by the country, taking the country’s total number of infections to 11,844, even as the nation intensifies efforts to flatten the curve of the pandemic.
The new cases were confirmed by the specialist agency, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Twitter.
NCDC also reported the discharged of 161 people, raising the number of successfully recovered patients to 3,696
While number of fatalities also increased by ten taking the country’s death toll from the virus to 333
Nigeria has so far tested 73,064 persons since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced on 27 February 2020, when an Italian citizen in Lagos tested positive for the virus, caused by SARS-CoV-2.
The public health agency in a tweet said the new cases were reported in 13 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
All the reporting states already had at least a case of the virus.
There was a decrease in the number of infections reported on Friday 328 compared to the number reported on Thursday 350.
Lagos State remains the epicentre of COVID-19 in Nigeria and also reported the highest daily figure of infections on Friday followed by FCT and Bauchi with 121, 70 and 25 cases respectively.
Other states with new cases include: Rivers with 18 cases, Oyo with 16 cases, Kaduna reported 15 cases, Gombe reported 14 cases, Edo and Ogun confirmed 13 cases each.
While Jigawa reported eight cases, Enugu confirmed six cases, Kano reported five cases, Osun and Ondo confirmed two cases each.
On the 5th of June 2020, 328 new confirmed cases and 10 deaths were recorded in Nigeria
No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.
