    COVID-19 Infections: Confirmed Cases in Nigeria Supass 38,000

    As the nation continues its fight against Coronavirus, Nigeria on Wednesday night recorded 543 new cases of COVID-19 and 8 people were reportedly dead from the virus infections. 

    No country knows the total number of people infected with COVID-19. All we know is the infection status of those who have been tested. All those who have a lab-confirmed infection are counted as confirmed cases.
    A total figure of 29,602 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, this is the highest number of test conducted in a day since the first confirmed case in Nigeria was announced on 27 February 2020. 

    With the latest update by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, the total tally of infected people in the country rose to 38,344

    NCDC also announced the discharge of 138 patients from isolation centers across the country after tested negative to coronavirus.

    Data obtained from the NCDC’s website shows that the new cases were reported in 14 states and the Federal  Capital Territory. 

    Within a 24 hour period, Lagos, a major financial centre for all of Africa and the economic hub of Nigeria saw 180 new coronavirus cases, while FCT, Kaduna, Edo and Ondo reported 86, 56, 47 and 37 cases respectively.

    Other states with new virus infections as follows: Kwara-35, Ogun-19, Rivers-19, Kano-17, Ebonyi-16, Enugu-16, Delta-7, Bayelsa-4, Bauchi-3 and Abia-1.

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has conducted about 247,825 tests since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced.

    On the 22nd of July 2020, 543 new confirmed cases and 8 deaths were recorded in Nigeria
    Till date, 38344 cases have been confirmed, 15815 cases have been discharged and 813 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
