'Premier League Table Doesn't Mean Much Until February' - Mourinho Plays Down Tottenham Title Talk

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has played down talk of his side winning the Premier League title.

Mourinho's side have made an encouraging start to the campaign, but he insisted that the table 'doesn't mean much' until 'February or March'. 

'I believe the table now doesn't mean much. I believe that by February, March, you look to the table and understand the reality of the competition,' Mourinho said, as reported by goal.

A part of that special season with a special Leicester [in 2015-16], a part of that you get into February or March and the reality of the teams are expressed on the table, in this moment not yet.'

Tottenham are currently in sixth place having won three of their six games so far. They were hugely impressive in the 6-1 thrashing of Manchester United earlier this month, but Mourinho is taking matters one game a time.

The next assignment for Tottenham sees them host Brighton on Sunday.

‘We had magnificent results away in the Premier League but at home we lost too many points and with these points we would be there but it is not a target.’

'The target is to win against Brighton knowing that anything can happen in the Premier League.'

Tottenham will be eager to respond after their surprise Europa League defeat to Antwerp and will be hopeful of getting the better of a Brighton side that have taken just five points from six games.  

After taking on Brighton, Tottenham will travel to face West Brom. They will subsequently have three tough tests in quick succession as they take on Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

With Harry Kane and Son Heung-min potentially forming a very effective attacking triumvirate with Gareth Bale, Tottenham could pose a major threat this season.
