    COVID-19: Nigeria Records 4 Additional Deaths, 999 Infections

    Four more deaths and 999 new infections in Nigeria have pushed the nationwide death toll to 1,231 and the number of COVID-19 cases to 79,789 since the first cases of COVID-19 infections was reported in the country.

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said in a daily update.

    The health agency added that 396 people were discharged, bringing the country total recoveries to 68,879

    With 27,091 infections, the commercial capital Lagos remains Nigeria’s worst-hit city, Followed by Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, with 10,122 cases, and the Northern state, Kaduna where 4,628 cases have been confirmed so far.

    According to the data released by the health  agency via its verified website, the newly recorded COVID-19 cases were reported across 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    FCT topped the list with 416 infections, followed by Lagos with 324, Kaduna with 67 and Plateau with 42 cases.

    Other states with new COVID-19 infections are Kwara (32), Kano (24), Gombe (14), Sokoto (12), Yobe (12), Akwa Ibom (11), Bayelsa (10), Rivers (7), Bauchi (7), Ogun (6), Oyo (5), Edo (4), Taraba (4) and Jigawa (1)

    Nigeria has tested 903,800 persons since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced on 27 February 2020.

    In summary, as of December 22nd, 2020, 999 new confirmed cases and 4 deaths were recorded in Nigeria

    Till date, 79,789 cases have been confirmed, 68,879 cases have been discharged and 1,231 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
