    COVID-19: Nigeria Reaches Grim 100,000 Cases Milestone as NCDC Announces 1,024 New Infections

    Nigeria on Sunday surpassed the grim milestone of 100,000 coronavirus cases, underscoring the pandemic's persistence in the country during the end-of-year holiday period.

    As Covid-19 cases continue to rise in Nigeria and other parts of world. The nation's COVID-19 infections reached another milestone on Sunday as Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC confirmed 1,024 new infections, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 100,087.

    Having fully recovered and tested negative to COVID-19, NCDC has announced the discharged of 613 new patients, while 8 deaths were recorded from the virus.

    Nigeria has so far tested 1,025,560 persons since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced.

    The public health agency in a tweet said the new cases were reported in 16 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    According to the breakdown by NCDC, Lagos recorded the highest number of cases with 653 infections, followed by Plateau which recorded 63 cases, while Benue, Zamfara and  Abuja, the Federal Capital  Territory recorded 48, 45 and 42 cases respectively.

    Other states affected by the virus on Sunday include: Rivers-27, Ondo-26, Adamawa-26, Kaduna-22, Edo-18, Ogun-16, Imo-12, Kano-9, Yobe-6, Ekiti-5, Jigawa-4 and Osun-2.

    According to the health agency, on the 10th of January 2021, 1,024 new confirmed cases and 8 deaths were recorded in Nigeria

    Till date, 100,087 cases have been confirmed, 80,030 cases have been discharged and 1,358 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    The COVID-19 pandemic was first reported late 2019 in China, but has since grown to affect nearly every country on earth. The deadly disease -- which belongs to a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases -- has encroached on the daily lives of billions. With the pandemic showing no signs of ending any time soon, some countries have begun mass-inoculation campaigns to protect its citizens.
