Burna Boy was nominated in the category alongside Aya
Nakamura (France), Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Emicida (Brazil), Headie One
(UK), Wizkid (Nigeria), Young T & Bugsey (UK), Youssoupha (France).
Burna Boy’s 2021 BET victory adds to his growing list of
musical accomplishments, most notably his historic Grammy win at the 63rd
edition of music’s biggest ceremony earlier this year.
Elsewhere, Nigerian singer Tems and South Africa’s Elaine
lost the BET Viewers’ Choice: Best New International Act Award to English
artist Bree Runway.
The self-acclaimed African Giant and Grammy Award winner was
announced as the winner of the category at the event which took place on the
27th of June 2021 at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Burna Boy will be heading back on tour this year.
His Space Drift World Tour will see him perform in the US, UK, France, Finland,
Spain and Portugal, among others.
