The figures bring the number of deaths to 2,195 and the
confirmed infections to 179,908 after conducting 2,589,130 tests since Feb. 2020
in the West African nation of over 200 million, according to the Nigeria Centre
for Disease Control NCDC in its daily COVID-19 update.
About 72 infected patients were discharged after recovered from
the virus, the number of recoveries now stands at 166,203.
Active cases have now climbed to 11,500, an increase of 717 from
the nation's last update.
The 790 cases were detected in 12 states and the Federal
Capital Territory.
Lagos the epicentre of COVID-19 in Nigeria reported the highest
number of cases as usual with 574 infections out of the 790 cases reported on
Wednesday.
Followed by Rivers state with 83 cases, Ondo with 38, Ogun with
31, Oyo with 23 cases and Delta with 10.
FCT reported 9 cases, Ekiti had 7, Edo had 6, Osun had 4, Anambra
and Bayelsa reported 2 cases each and Plateau with 1 case.
Today’s report includes three states with zero cases
reported: Kano, Nasarawa and Sokoto.
A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC),
activated at Level 2, continues to coordinate the national response activities,
NCDC added.
