Lamont Marcell Jacobs won the Olympics 100 metres gold as
Nigeria’s medal hope Enoch Adegoke tragically crashed out about 25 metres to
the end of the race.
Adegoke who came second in his semi-final heat and and had
run 9.80 seconds in the preliminary heat, developed hamstring injury, groping
his right thigh in intense pain.
Itshekiri who collapsed in the semi-final developed a
similar injury.

USA’s Fred Kerley claimed silver with a run of 9.84, while
Andre De Graase picked up bronze with a 9.89 dash.
De Graase also finished third behind Bolt – who has since retired
from sprinting – in Rio.
Jacobs used to be a long jumper, while he was crowned 60m
sprinting champion at the European Indoor Championships this year.
British sprinter Zharnel Hughes was disqualified for a false
start.
