The data also shows that the number of people who have
recovered from the illness and discharged from hospital increased by 363.
Data from the health officials further indicated that the
country recorded 8 deaths linked to the virus on Monday.
The West Africa country had by Monday night cumulatively
recorded 187,588 COVID-19 cases with at least 168,818 patients recovered and
discharged from hospitals across the country and 2,276 people lost their lives
to the virus since the beginning of the pandemic.
NCDC also added that the number of active coronavirus cases
in Nigeria has risen to 16,494, up from 16,300 the previous day.
Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country with over 200
million population, conducted 2,727,834 COVID-19 tests since March of last year.
Within a week, the country conducted 79,150 tests.
In the agency’s report, Lagos recorded the highest number of
infections with 205 followed by Rivers with 73 cases, Ondo with 63, FCT with 53
and Oyo with 53 cases.
Other states with new
cases include Ekiti-37, Delta-24, Edo-20, Benue-12, Bayelsa-6, Kwara-6, Osun-6,
Ogun-5 and Adamawa-2.
While seven states, Cross River, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano,
Nasarawa, Plateau and Sokoto recorded zero cases.
Its noted that today’s report includes a backlog of cases
from Benue state reported on the 17th (7), 18th (1) and 19th (4) of August 2021.
