This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based
newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the English club are prepared
to submit their latest offer to the Nerazzurri today, and are also ready to
offer the Belgian personal terms which would nearly double the wages which he
currently earns at Inter.
The Nerazzurri have been firm up to this point and not
wanting to sell the Belgian, and have rejected an initial offer from Chelsea of
€105 million cash plus Marcos Alonso, but the Blues are determined and are
expected to return very soon with a new offer of €130 million to test the
Nerazzurri’s resolve.
Should the player agree on a move, the Nerazzurri could
consider accepting the Blues’ offer, despite denials earlier in the window that
they would ever consider the player to be for sale.
In the case that the player is sold, an agreement could be
reached quickly, with the Blues wanting to get their man quickly and the
Nerazzurri wanting adequate time to find a replacement for the 28-year-old, who
has been crucial for the team the past two seasons.
To this end, a deal could be wrapped up as early as this
weekend, with the Blues not waiting to submit a more aggressive offer and
ongoing in their attempts to convince the player.
The Blues are offering the striker personal terms worth
€12-13 million net per season which could reach €15 million with add-ons, a
significant increase from the €8.5 million which he currently earns with Inter,
and this could prove a decisive factor in convincing him to leave.
It remains to be seen, however, whether the player will
accept a move, but should he decide on it then the clubs could move quickly to
make it happen.
