In an exclusive interview with Qed.ng, Gbenga
disclosed that Laffmatazz is an idea that was generated about 30 years ago,
with the aim of creating a platform in the southwest to give people the chance
to grow and be confident.
“Laffmatazz was an idea that came to me about
30 years ago, I kept asking myself ‘what is the best way to get known, to reach
out to people?’ I decided to create a TV program called Laffmatazz, we were on
TV for a while, then the desire to bring it from TV to the physical realm
brought about the idea of Laffmatazz the concert.
“At a point, I kept asking myself ‘what will I
be remembered for?’ At that time everybody wanted to be Warri, everywhere you
go you hear ‘area’ even Yoruba boys were saying ‘we Warri people’.
So I asked myself what I can do about this and
God gave me the idea of creating a platform in the southwest that would give
people in the southwest a platform to grow and push confidence so we started
the Laffmatazz southwest tour about 12 years ago in Ibadan,” he said in the
interview.
