This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in the
country, since the start of the pandemic, to 218,596.
Giving the update on the outbreak of the disease on its official
website on Tuesday, the health officials noted that the new infections were
recorded in 10 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
It said Lagos state reported more than half of the new
infections with 431 cases.
The commercial city of roughly 20 million people has
maintained the status of the COVID-19 epicentre since the disease outbreak in Feb
27, 2020, as the data on the NCDC website shows that the state has so far
recorded a total of 81,030 cases, 80,053 recoveries and 756 deaths, about a quarter
of the total deaths from the virus in Nigeria.
Followed by Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) which
reported 174 cases on Tuesday and has so
far recorded 24,069 cases of the virus, 23,289 recoveries and 224 deaths since last
year.
Rivers, the third most affected by the coronavirus pandemic in
the country registered 38 new cases on Tuesday. The state has reported a total of
13,114 cases, 12,807 recoveries and 154 deaths.
Other states with new cases on Tuesday includes Ogun-32, Akwa
Ibom-25, Anambra-11, Katsina-7, Bayelsa-4, Niger-4, Kano-3 and Ekiti-1.
While Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau and Sokoto states reported no
new cases of the virus in the past 24 hours, NCDC said.
Nigeria reported no deaths linked to the novel coronavirus
on Tuesday. The country has reported a total of 2,982 fatalities linked to the
deadly virus since 2020.
With 1,178 recoveries in the last 24 hours, the total
recoveries in the country climbed to 211,254 health officials said.
NCDC added that the number of active COVID-19 cases in the
country stands at 4,359, declined by 207
from 4,566 it was on Monday.
The health department continues to recommend disease
prevention protocol; i.e., wearing masks, social distancing, hand washing, and
disinfecting surfaces to prevent the spread of the virus.
