    Best Cities for Remote Workers

COVID-19 has forced us to adapt to a lifestyle that most of us had never considered before. It’s impact has been far-reaching. Now,  we’ve been trained to prepare for the worst and ensure that we have enough emergency supplies and tech essentials. Our work culture has also been affected significantly, as evidenced by the considerable increase in remote workers.

Remote work has  numerous benefits. Working in a less stressful environment and the freedom to flexibly set your schedule can help you maintain work-life balance. Being able to work from anywhere in the world could save on you time, costs and reduce your carbon footprint.

While you can work remotely from anywhere in the world, some places offer better conditions than others. Digital nomads should consider the following factors when deciding where to travel:  Internet availability and speeds, attitudes towards foreigners, recreational activities and facilities, and the cost of living. So, what are the best cities for remote workers in the world?

    PCMag’s review
puts Layton, Utah, as the best city in the U.S. for remote workers. It offers internet speeds of up to 6 Gbps, an affordable cost of living, and a significant selection of leisure and recreation facilities, parks, and entertainment. The best feature about Layton is the city’s atmosphere and friendliness to expatriates.

Affordability is what makes Edmonton the best city in Canada for remote workers. The housing prices particularly, are more affordable than  other places in Canada where real estate has recently appreciated. The city offers internet speeds between 1 – 2 Gbps and numerous entertainment and recreation facilities and activities. You can travel to 36 destinations from the Edmonton airports.

The cost of living in Lisbon, Portugal, is one of the lowest among Western European cities. It offers many attractions and particularly memorable food and wine.. The most attractive feature of the city is its pleasant weather. Lisbon offers internet speeds under 2 Gbps.

    Florianopolis
, the Latin American Silicon Valley, is one of the best tech destinations in South America. The Brazilian city is very welcoming, with people from all walks of life. It boasts  a mild climate, low cost of living, and numerous outdoor activities. The city provides connection speeds  between 1 – 2 Gbps.

    Bangkok, Thailand
, is one of the best Asian cities for remote workers. The internet speeds are only up to 1 Gbps, but the cost of living is one of the lowest among all the cities mentioned here. Bangkok is a cosmopolitan city, which makes it quite welcoming for foreigners. One downside to an otherwise great city is the all-around humid climate..

Finally, Cape Town, South Africa, is one of the best African cities for remote workers and digital nomads with its recreation activities, low cost of living, and welcoming atmosphere. The fiber internet speeds, however, are lower than 1 Gbps.

With so many amazing cities and countries available for remote work, it can be difficult to decide just where to base yourself out of. When deciding on a place, it’s important to look at some of your requirements and necessities. While you’re at it, make sure to do deeper research into your selected city.
