According to tweets shared by licensed trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis, Paramount Pictures filed two trademark applications on Sept. 7 for the early 2000s teen comedy starring former Disney actress Lindsay Lohan.
Popular Hollywood teen comedy film, Mean Girls that was
released in 2004 will be updated for Web3. Paramount Pictures, the holder of
the rights to the film starring Lindsay Lohan, may return in
“crypto-collectible” form.
The production house has filed trademark filings that hint
at what elements of this film could soon be remade, and it includes
non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Built on the blockchain, NFTs are digital
collectibles that are inspired by real people, objects, and artwork, among
other things.
The trademark filings mention “downloadable media files
containing artwork,” as well as “downloadable virtual goods” and “app tokens.”
Although Paramount Pictures has not announced its intent
with these Web3 trademark filings surrounding Mean Girls, screenshots of the
documents have surfaced on social media.
Mean Girls, which revolves around a young girl’s entry into
a tight-knit group of four fashion divas, has been touted as one of the most
quotable movies of all time and the source of numerous memes and GIFs.
Since its launch, every year October 3rd has been celebrated
as Mean Girls Day by fans of the film, which also starred Rachel McAdams, Tina
Fey, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert in key roles.
The association of popular movies with the Web3 sector seems
to be gaining momentum in recent days.

Just this month, mass media conglomerate Viacom
International registered a similar trademark to extend The Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles brand to Web3.
This year so far, the number of NFT applications has exceeded
those submitted in the crypto, Web3 and metaverse arenas. To date, over 5,800
applications and patents regarding NFTs have already reached the USPTO. In
2021, that number was 2,087, Kondulis said recently.
