Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Laurence Stewart as technical director.
Stewart will move to Stamford Bridge when he completes his
commitments at French side AS Monaco.
“I’m delighted to be joining Chelsea and excited about the
vision and direction of the club under the new ownership group,” said Stewart.
“I am excited to join them to help them build a world-class
global sporting organisation to consistently win on the pitch at the highest
levels and provide player pathways to help develop our talent.”
Stewart previously worked with the Red Bull network, RB
Leipzig, Everton, Manchester City and the FA.
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has previously spoken of his
desire to implement a multi-club model with his new side. At Monaco, Stewart
has been part of a multi-club set-up, including Belgian side Cercle Bruges.
Chelsea chairman Boehly and co-controlling owner Behdad
Eghbali said: “Laurence is an important appointment as we plan to build a deep
sporting team that will collaborate closely. Laurence is a world-class football
leader who understands talent management, data and scouting, player development
and performance.”
Stewart is expected to be joined at Stamford Bridge by Paul
Winstanley, who has been given permission to speak to Chelsea by current
employers Brighton & Hove Albion.
Chelsea are hoping to appoint Winstanley in a director of
football-type role as Boehly continues to restructure his side’s transfer team.
Joe Shields and Christopher Vivell are also expected to move
to west London
