UEFA Hand PSV 4 Charges after Crowd Trouble vs Arsenal

UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against PSV Eindhoven after crowd trouble marred their Europa League meeting with Arsenal on Thursday.

After the full-time whistle on a 1-0 win for Mikel Arteta’s side at Emirates Stadium, both sets of fans clashed and chairs and flares were thrown from the away end.

The Dutch club have now been hit with four charges: throwing of objects, lighting of fireworks, acts of damage and crowd disturbances.

Arsenal have not been charged and it is unlikely UEFA would go back to an incident and add another charge. Last night’s trouble resulted in two arrests, with both men remaining in custody this morning.

“One man was arrested on suspicion of throwing a flare within a stadium following disorder involving PSV fans during their game against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday, 20 October,” read a statement from the Metropolitan Police on Friday.

“A second man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker. They both remain in custody.

“Officers from the Met’s Football Policing Unit are carrying out enquiries to identify whether any other offences were committed.”
