According to the latest reports, Apple may introduce a
redesigned HomePod with a 7–inch touchscreen display. The latest development
was shared by noted Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo.
He further explained that, the Chinese display solutions
provider Tianma will supply panels for the redesigned HomePod. In his post on
Medium, the analyst said that the new HomePod’s display could offer deeper
integration with other hardware products from Apple. By introducing smart
displays, Apple’s HomePod will compete with Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s
Nest Hub.
Incidentally, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman was the first to report
that the Cupertino-based company was working on a new HomePod model with
display and camera and multi-touch functionality.
Apple launched its second generation Apple HomePod in
January this year. The latest smart speaker comes with Siri, built-in sensors
and EQ microphones.
The device is powered by Apple’s in-house S7 chipset. The
second generation speaker comes with five tweeters compared to the seven
tweeters on the original variant. It has four microphones instead of six
spotted on the previous generation.
Apple added a 4-inch high-excursion woofer to the HomePod
which enhances the bass capabilities.
With the S7 processor, the HomePod 2 offers improved
computational audio. The new device also supports Spatial Audio with Dolby
Atmos audio and will also support multi-room AirPlay and stereo pairing.
