The new fitness tracker looks quite similar to its
predecessor, except for its redesigned strap mechanism. However, the company
has come up with a new way for users to wear the wearable gadget – like a
necklace.
This means that the Mi Band 8 will no longer be restricted
to the wrist. Xiaomi founder Lei Jun shared an image of the new device strung
up like a pendant on his Weibo page. It appears that the company will also sell
necklace accessories for the new Mi Band.
Here’s what we know about the fitness tracker so far:
The Weibo poster reveals that just like its predecessor, the
Xiaomi Band 7, the upcoming fitness tracker will also sport a pill-shaped
AMOLED display.
According to a report, the company is expected to upgrade the
strap mechanism on Xiaomi Band 8 to offer a more secure and comfortable design.
The strap is also likely to connect to the device on each side. Meanwhile, the
band is also likely to arrive in multiple colour variants.
Another Weibo post claims that the Xiaomi Band 8 will also
come with a “necklace” accessory. This will allow users to wear the smart band
as a necklace. Users will also be able to wear the smart band with bracelets.
The upcoming smart band is also expected to support activity-tracking functions like -- heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen measurement, sleep tracking, and stress monitoring. Xiaomi Band 8 may also arrive with NFC and voice assistant features.
The standard model will likely provide GPS connectivity via a connected phone, while the Pro model, acting as a successor to the Mi Band 7 Pro is likely to include inbuilt GPS. The Chinese variant of the purported fitness tracker may likely vary from its global variants, the report adds.
