    Customs Generates N38.7bn In H1 From Lagos Airport


    The Murtala Muhammed Airport command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), generated N38.7billion revenue in six months.

    In a press statement by the public relations officer of the command, Victor Ogagbor, the 2023 H1 revenue represented 11 percent increase compare to N34.85billion generated in H1 2022.

    According to the Customs PRO, the command’s enforcement unit also intercepted contraband worth N27.7billion in the month under review.

    The statement reads, “From January – June 2023, the Murtala Muhammed Airport Command generated a total of N38.7billion representing 79.6 per cent of annual revenue target met. When compared to the same period in 2022 of 34.,85billion a progressive difference of N3.85billion representing 11 per cent increase.

    “In the area of anti-smuggling the command made remarkable successes in the first half of 2023. The Enforcement Unit of the Command coordinated several anti-smuggling activities in synergy with other critical stakeholders which led to the seizure of 15 consignments of Tramadol, Dried Shark Fins and Live Turtle with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N27.75billion. Shark Fin and Live Turtle are classified under endangered species.”

    He, however, disclosed that the contrabands, especially’ drugs were handed over to the Nigerian Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

    “In the Spirit of inter-departmental cooperation the Command has handed over the packages of Tramadol to NDLEA. The Area Comptroller strived for the continuous cooperation of all stakeholders and reiterated the Command’s promise to sustain and improve upon revenue generation in the second half of 2023.”
