Insufficient Funding Causing Scarcity of Booklets, Others – Ogun NIS

The Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Service, Ogun State command, Bosede Olayemisi, has blamed the lack of funding on the scarcity of booklets for the passport.

The comptroller said this on Tuesday, at a press conference held in Abeokuta, as part of activities marking the 60th anniversary of the service.

The state NIS boss, who was just redeployed to the state, said there had been tremendous improvements in the service.

She added that the service has transformed from analogue to digital, which, according to her, had reduced the stress the applicants were going through to obtain passports .

She, however, said the NIS was going through some challenges which, according to her, include lack of funds among others.

She said “the immigration service has moved from manual to electronic, for instance, we used to write passports by hand, everything is now digital so there is a lot of evolution.

“But, the challenge is that we need more funding because, if you get funding, the issue of booklet scarcity will be over then,we can have more offices opened, more machine supply for the passport production, and then our border management.

“Since we have high-tech, we need it to be fully developed and all this entails money, then, the welfare of the officers needs to be attended to, and I am sure all these things come with funding.”

She, however, assured the people of Ogun state of efficient performance.
