Afrobeats singer, David ‘Davido’ Adeleke has challenged the N2.3 billion breach of contract suit filed against him by the Chairman of Brownhill Investments Company Limited, Amaju Pinnick.
The Afrobeats superstar denied Nigerian music executive Soso Soberekon as his authorised agent.
The music star disclosed this while raising objections to a
N2.3 billion lawsuit filed against him by Amaju Pinnick, a former president of
the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
On October 31, Pinnick filed a lawsuit alleging that Davido
breached a contract to perform at the 19th edition of the ‘Warri Again’ event
on October 6, 2023.
He claimed that Davido failed to appear at the event after
receiving a payment of $94,500.
He further alleged that he incurred an additional $18,000
for a private jet chartered to transport Davido and his team, who ultimately
did not show.
During a recent hearing, Davido, through his team of lawyers
led by Norrison Quakers (SAN), challenged the jurisdiction of the Delta State
High Court in Effurun to hear the matter.
They argued that the issue should be treated as a debt
recovery case and that Pinnick should have issued a demand letter before taking
legal action.
Davido’s lawyers also denied that Sosoberokon, who signed
the contract on his behalf, was his authorised agent.
They also disputed Pinnick’s claim that the payment was for
a performance rather than promotional services.
The presiding judge, however, adjourned to December 14, 2023
for the court to rule on the preliminary objections filed in both cases.
