Mrs. Caroline Adepoju, the Comptroller General of the NIS,
made this announcement at the opening of the Igbogbo Passport Front Office in
the Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Adepoju emphasized the commitment of the NIS to providing
efficient passport services, stating, “I can tell you, barring all technical
problems, you should be able to completely apply for your passport and within
three weeks, you should be able to get it.”
She highlighted the importance of applicants using
consistent information with their National Identity Numbers (NIN) during the
application process, as passports are linked to NINs.
The Comptroller General noted that the inclusion of the NIN
on passports streamlines the application process and ensures accuracy in the
identification of applicants.
She urged Nigerians to apply for passport renewal six months
before the expiration date, emphasizing that certain countries may refuse visas
to individuals with passports having less than six months left before
expiration.
Adepoju’s statement aims to reassure citizens and streamline
the passport application and renewal process, aligning with the NIS’s
commitment to providing timely and efficient services to the public.
