German leagues will adopt the European Championship policy, which permits only team captains to engage in discussions with referees regarding their decisions, as announced by the national soccer federation on Tuesday.

UEFA has announced a firm stance against any form of dissent directed towards match officials during the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament. This decision was prompted by the observation of several instances where players were issued yellow cards for such behavior.

Across all levels of German football, from the top-tier Bundesliga to amateur and youth leagues, referees will have standardized authority to officiate matches during the upcoming season.

“A player who ignores the role of their captain, complains to the referee or behaves disrespectfully will be cautioned,” the German federation said in a statement.

During the Euro 2024, UEFA announced that the policy will be prolonged for the upcoming season.

“This will be implemented in all UEFA competitions,” its director of refereeing Roberto Rosetti said last month, “and we are happy that the national associations want to follow.” AP
