NNPC is strategizing to establish three LNG stations and 100 CNG sites across the country.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has
announced the initiation of efforts to make Compressed Natural Gas more
accessible to Nigerians, and this initiative is irreversible.
Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd,
stated that, in addition to the extensive establishment of CNG stations across
the country, the company and its partners will also construct three Liquefied
Natural Gas stations in Ajaokuta.
Kyari made these remarks on Thursday, during the
simultaneous inauguration of 12 CNG stations in Abuja and Lagos by the Minister
of State Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo.
"There is no turning back on the delivery of CNG for
all Nigerians. It is the right thing to do. Is it late? Yes, but we will make
progress.
"We will bridge the gap to ensure that the volatility
we see with Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) does not apply to gas," Kyari
stated.
President Bola Tinubu was praised for his support in driving
domestic gas utilization to provide cleaner and more affordable energy sources
for Nigerians.
NNPC Retail Limited's Managing Director, Mr. Huub Stokman,
announced plans to establish over 100 CNG sites, including 16 NNPC Gas
Marketing and NIPCO Gas JV sites, within the next year.
Stokman emphasized that CNG will offer Nigeria a more
cost-effective alternative to existing fuel products, with the potential to
become a significant part of the country's energy mix.
NNPC Board of Directors Chairman, Pius Akinyelure,
highlighted the economic benefits of increased CNG adoption, including reduced
fuel costs for consumers and businesses.
NNPC Ltd. has taken the lead in deploying Auto-CNG Stations
across Nigeria following the removal of fuel subsidy and the launch of the
Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiatives.
NNPC Gas Marketing Limited, in partnership with NIPCO Gas
Limited, has developed a plan to construct 35 CNG stations across the country.
