Nigerian artist Ololade Ahmed, widely recognized as Asake, has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first African musician to reach the pinnacle of the global Spotify debut chart.

This accomplishment follows the release of his third studio album, ‘Lungu Boy,’ which ascended to the number one position on the chart. The ‘Wave’ artist unveiled the 15-track album in the early hours of Friday.

This project boasts an impressive array of international collaborators, featuring prominent figures such as Nigerian icon Wizkid, American hip-hop stars Travis Scott, British rappers Stormzy and Central Cee, as well as a Brazilian vocalist.

The songs in the album include ‘MMS’, ‘Mood’, ‘My Heart’, ‘Worldwide’, ‘Active’, ‘Suru’, ‘Skating’, ‘Wave’, and ‘Mentally’. Other tracks are ‘Uhh Yeah’, ‘I Swear’, ‘Ligali’, and ‘Whine’. The singer also added a bonus track titled ‘Fuji Vibe’.

'Lungu Boy' has set a new record for the highest number of first-day streams for an African album on Spotify, achieving an impressive 9.42 million streams on the Global Spotify Chart within its inaugural day.

A notable track from the album, 'MMS,' featuring Wizkid, also established a record for the most first-day streams on Spotify Nigeria, amassing 870,000 streams.

The Grammy-nominated artist gained recognition in 2020 with his popular song 'Lady' and became a member of YBNL, the record label founded by Olamide, in February 2022.

He has released two studio albums: 'Mr Money With The Vibes' in 2022 and 'Work of Art' in 2023, earning numerous awards and nominations for his work. Asake received a nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 2024 Grammys for his collaboration 'Amapiano' with rapper Olamide.

Currently signed to YBNL Nation and Empire Distribution, Asake has begun promoting the Lungu Boy tour while performing at various venues. In 2022, he launched his debut album, Mr Money With The Vibe, and in 2023, he achieved international acclaim with his second studio album, Work of Art.

During this period, Asake also made headlines by performing at the O2 Arena in London, a venue with a capacity of 20,000, where he delivered an electrifying performance that generated immense excitement among his audience.
