CKay and Joseph Salubi co-founders of record label Boyfriend Music Ltd |
Multi-platinum artist Ekweani, widely known as CKay, has announced the establishment of his own record label, ‘Boyfriend Music Limited.’
The 29-year-old songwriter launched this new venture in
collaboration with his childhood friend and manager, Joseph Salubi.
According to a statement from the management, the music
label is committed to “ensuring that artists, songwriters, and producers
receive their rightful royalties.” Additionally, the label aims to offer
A&R services to artists “to help them realize their creative potential.”
Boyfriend Music Ltd. is thrilled to announce its official
launch in Lagos, Nigeria. This music management and publishing company is
dedicated to assisting artists, songwriters, and producers in securing their
rightful royalties while offering A&R services to enhance their creative
capabilities, as stated in the announcement.
"We are dedicated to fostering a strong and transparent
environment where artists, songwriters, and producers can concentrate on their
artistry while we manage the complexities of music management and publishing.
Every genuine artist deserves a supportive team that respects their
vision," the statement continues.
Joseph Salubi, Managing Director of Boyfriend Music Ltd.,
remarked, "Our shared passion for music and our collective experiences
have inspired us to establish a company that genuinely supports artists,
songwriters, and producers in all facets of their careers."
“At Boyfriend Music Itd., we are dedicated to empowering
creators. We ensure they receive the royalties they have earned and provide the
resources and guidance they need to flourish creatively.”
CKay in an Instagram post also appreciated Salubi, saying,
“I couldn’t be more proud of this moment. From us being two young dreamers in
Kaduna, Nigeria, to travelling the world and blessing people with the gift of
music… Seeing how far we’ve come gives me great joy. I love and appreciate you
always broski!”
Salubi announced that he will take on the role of managing
director at the music company. CKay gained widespread recognition with the
release of his hit track ‘Love Nwantiti’ in 2019, which emerged as one of the
most significant contributions to Afrobeats, elevating Nigerian music to new
heights.
Following its viral success on TikTok in 2021, the song
achieved an impressive RIAA certification of 8 times platinum.
As the lead single from CKay’s EP ‘CKay The First,’ ‘Love
Nwantiti’ continues to hold the record as the most certified Nigerian song in
the United States.
Initially signed to Loopy Music, CKay's career took a turn
when the label merged with Chocolate City in 2015, leading to the release of
his second EP, which featured ‘Love Nwantiti.’ In 2021, CKay clarified that his
contract was with Warner Music South Africa, not Chocolate City.
Last year, he expressed his excitement when award-winning
rapper Olamide featured him on the track ‘Trumpet.’
