Renowned Nigerian musician, Oladapo Oyebanjo, professionally known as D’banj, has finally released his eagerly awaited album titled ‘The Entertainer: D’Sequel’.
On Friday, the 44-year-old artist utilized his Instagram
platform to share excerpts from the exclusive listening event held in Lagos.
The album serves as a successor to ‘Entertainer’, Dban’j’s
2008 album.
On Tuesday, D’banj released a preview of his upcoming album,
which features a cameo appearance by his friend Don Jazzy as a sniper who
rescues him from a kidnapping.
The ”3-track project includes collaborations with several
prominent Nigerian and international musicians, including Wyclef Jean, Awilo
Logomba, Youssou N’Dour, Akon, and Phyno.
Others include DJ Maphorisa, Chechi Sarai, Timaya,
Kayswitch, Zlatan, Peruzzi, Bhadboi Oml and Chuchu Lee.
Songs on the project include ‘World Famous’, ‘Healer’,
‘Kala’, ‘Yours Truly’, ‘Koko’, ‘Serious’, ‘Since 04’ and ‘My Melody’.
Others are ‘Worthy’, ‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘I Am Legend’, ‘Taya’
and ‘Koko Remix’.
Last month, D’banj released ‘Worthy’, the tenth track from
the album, featuring Youssou N’Dour, the Senegalese Grammy award-winning
vocalist, and Chechi Sarai.
He described the song as a “message of hope and unity to all
Africans”.
“When we come together as one, we not only honour our
heritage but also unlock our borderless potential to lead the world. The future
belongs to a united Africa, worthy of her dreams and aspirations,” he said.
The Nigerian rapper, Olamide, collaborated in the
composition of the song. Additionally, D’banj complemented the release with a
vibrant video that celebrates his African heritage.
D’banj had previously released ‘Since O4‘ and ‘Koko‘, two
tracks off the album.
The esteemed and multi-award-winning artist recently
headlined the prestigious Trace Live event in commemoration of his remarkable
two decades of gracing the stage. He enthusiastically refers to his forthcoming
single, scheduled for release on May 3, 2024, as one of his most cherished
tracks to date, as it coincides with the year 2004, marking his auspicious
debut in the music industry.
D’banj, also affectionately known as the Koko Master, paid
heartfelt tribute to the Mo’hit crew, comprising Don Jazzy, Wande Coal, D
Prince, Dr. Sid, and Kayswitch, whom he considers his brothers and with whom he
forged an exceptional team.
The Iconic Afrobeats artist expressed his profound gratitude
to all those who have played a pivotal role in his illustrious journey and
humbly extended his apologies to anyone he may have inadvertently wronged along
the way.
Throughout his remarkable 20-year career, D’banj has
consistently delighted his fans with an array of unforgettable singles,
including the chart-topping hits ‘Tongolo,’ ‘Why Me,’ ‘Oliver Twist,’ and ‘Mr.
Endowed,’ among numerous others.
His exceptional talent and contributions to the music
industry have been duly recognized through prestigious accolades, including the
MTV EMAs, MAMAs, and the coveted BET Award for Best African Act in 2011.
