MultiChoice’s DStv will cease broadcasting the PBS Kids channel effective August 31, 2024. The specific reasons for this decision have not been disclosed by the broadcaster.

This development marks the twelfth channel to be removed from DStv’s catalog this year. Notable among the previously discontinued channels are 1Magic, ME, WildEarth, GinX, and Africa Magic Urban.

In the case of 1Magic and ME, DStv introduced the 1Max channel as a replacement, offering a curated selection of content from the Showmax streaming platform.

PBS Kids, currently occupying channel 313 on DStv, caters to a young audience between the ages of two and eight. DStv viewers were informed of the impending channel closure through an on-screen message.

“Dear viewers, please be advised that PBS Kids will cease broadcasting on August 31, 2024. We appreciate your viewership,” the message stated.

MultiChoice confirmed the channel’s removal but refrained from providing any specific reasons behind the decision.

“MultiChoice periodically reviews its channel lineup to ensure we deliver the best local and international content to our customers,” the company stated.

“As part of this ongoing process, PBS Kids will no longer be available on GOtv channel 65 and DStv channel 313, effective August 31, 2024.”
