The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sanctioned the roster of players set to represent Nigeria’s senior national team in the upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Eguavoen will take on the role of interim coach following
the inability to appoint a permanent replacement for Finidi George, who
departed two months ago after a disappointing performance in the World Cup
qualifiers.
Negotiations with Janne Andersson encountered obstacles, and
Herve Renard was not considering the position despite his representative’s
reassurances to the NFF after his resignation from the French women’s team.
Consequently, the NFF has opted for Eguavoen, who leads the
technical department, to oversee both matches scheduled for September 7 and 10.
The final selection of 25 players, chosen from a pool of 35
who received provisional invitations, will be announced next week after
receiving approval from the board led by Ibrahim Musa Gusau.
