Nigeria’s prospects of securing a medal at the current 2024 Olympic Games diminished after Hannah Reuben’s unfortunate elimination in the women’s freestyle wrestling 76kg event on Saturday.
Reuben suffered a narrow 5-2 defeat against Davaanasan Amar of Mongolia during their Round of 16 encounter.
All eyes turned to Hannah Reuben after Nigeria’s medal
hopeful, Tobi Amusan, unfortunately did not make it to the finals of the
Women’s 100m Hurdles on Friday. She came in third place and was unable to
qualify as one of the two fastest non-automatic qualifiers.
Team Nigeria is facing a disappointing performance at the
Paris Olympics, currently without any medals.
The nation's performance at the recent Olympic Games was disappointing, marking the first time since the 2012 London Olympics that the country failed to secure a single medal.
Despite high expectations placed on prominent athletes such as Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, and Favour Ofili, their performances fell short of anticipated outcomes.
Given the current circumstances, Team Nigeria is set to
return from the Paris Olympics without securing a medal. The Olympic Games will
conclude on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
