Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn is exploring the possibility of a high-profile bout between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, even in light of Joshua's recent significant defeat to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium.

In a recent discussion with DAZN, Hearn presented two primary paths for Joshua's next steps: a rematch with Dubois or the long-anticipated encounter with Fury. While Hearn anticipates that Joshua may opt for the rematch with Dubois, he believes that a fight against Fury could represent the “bigger and better option” for the British-Nigerian fighter.

Hearn remarked, “I think the next move is probably the most important of his career so far. We have within our contract the option to do the rematch. I’m pretty sure after all my conversations so far with Turki Alalshikh, he wants the immediate rematch.”

Nevertheless, Hearn underscored the significance of a potential Fury matchup, stating, “For me, we have to fight Tyson Fury before it’s done.” He suggested that if Fury were to lose to Oleksandr Usyk, it would be prudent for both him and Joshua to engage in two bouts in 2025 before considering retirement.

These remarks follow Joshua's fifth-round knockout defeat to Dubois. Despite this setback, Joshua continues to be a major attraction in boxing, reportedly securing a guaranteed £6 million for the Dubois fight, with total earnings potentially reaching £25 million based on pay-per-view performance.

At 34 years old, Joshua has expressed his intention to persist in his boxing career, dismissing calls for retirement. In a video shared on his Instagram, he stated, “We came up short, but we have got to look at all the positives, and that’s the mindset that we have to have—a positive one, always.”

Hearn believes that Joshua has “between one and three fights” remaining in his career. “He doesn’t want to leave the sport. He loves it! But we as a team will make sure that he leaves the sport at the right time,” Hearn added.

The fight against Dubois reportedly attracted a record audience for a British boxing event, with Turki Alalshikh announcing an attendance of “more than 98,128” fans, highlighting Joshua's enduring appeal despite recent challenges.
