This announcement was made during a recent visit by the university's principal officers, including Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Board, Senator John Brambaifa, and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Reginald Keremah.
Before this visit, the governing council and principal officers engaged in a vital meeting with Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, where they discussed the necessary steps for initiating activities at the university.
Following the closed-door discussions, Keremah expressed satisfaction with the meeting, noting that critical topics were addressed, particularly concerning the university's operational site in Basambiri. He reported that the discussions led to a positive outcome, with the governor affirming his administration's unwavering support for the prompt and efficient establishment of the institution.
Keremah emphasized that this visit represents a pivotal moment as the university advances towards its ambition of becoming a premier center for agricultural education and research in the region.
The governor also underscored the institution's significance for the development of Bayelsa State, pointing out its potential to foster agricultural innovation and stimulate economic growth.
In addition to the meeting with the governor, the governing council convened for its inaugural session, which concentrated on tackling the immediate challenges associated with launching a new institution, such as infrastructure requirements, staffing, and community involvement.
Pro-Chancellor Brambaifa indicated that the council thoroughly examined these issues and proposed actionable solutions to facilitate a smooth and effective launch for the university.
He said: “We are confident that with the commitment of the council and the support of all stakeholders, the Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri, will soon become a centre of excellence in agricultural education and research.
“We are moving swiftly to ensure that the take-off happens seamlessly and that the institution becomes fully operational in the shortest possible time.”
The week concluded with a visit to the university's planned take-off site in Bassambri, Nembe, where the delegation reviewed the ongoing renovation of existing facilities. Led by Brambaifa, the group received a warm welcome from the chiefs, elders, and residents of Bassambiri.
During the visit, the community demonstrated their dedication to collaborating with the governing council to facilitate the successful launch of the university.
A notable chief from the community conveyed their assurance of full support from Bassambri to the council.
“We are committed to seeing the Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri, thrive. The community will provide all necessary support to make sure this project succeeds,” he said.
The visit to the Bassambri campus was characterized as productive, as it included a review of the ongoing renovations at significant buildings and an inspection of the proposed permanent location for the university.
